During startup, there will be no air to control airflow to the cylinder, causing very fast and possibly damaging cylinder speeds during the first machine cycle. To prevent this condition, both sides of the cylinder must be charged with air pressure at startup. Caution is required when using these valves as there is additional control complexity. Center-block 3-position valves can trap air and cause unexpected movement under emergency stop conditions, especially if tooling is jammed.
